Chill mornings, warm cabins, and smart winter savings

There’s something pretty special about winter mornings around Tamaki Marine Park. Crisp air, quiet waters, and a peaceful vibe out on the hardstand. If you’re making the most of the good boating days (or planning ahead), we’ve got a few things to help keep things running smoothly.
Gloss Boats are doing 15% off antifoul right now, and there’s a tidy 20% off haulout and waterblasting too if your hull’s due for a clean. HMB Marine Electrical can help with diesel heaters if you’re keen to stay toasty onboard. Definitely worth it if you’re heading out over the cooler months.
And if you’re into tech (or just enjoy a good evening out), HMBE would love to see you at Tech & Tasting Night on Wednesday 2 July at Bucklands Beach Yacht Club. They’ll be chatting about lithium, Starlink, and electric propulsion. All the hot topics made simple with some expert guests and a tasting session led by a rum ambassador. It’s free, but spots are limited, so flick an RSVP to info@hmbe.co.nz.
That’s it from us for now. If you need a hand with anything or just want to pop in for a chat, you know where to find us.

Tamaki Marine Park Boatyard: The Complete Package
Meet Nigel Herbert from Tauranga, proud owner of Ruben Jane, a Salthouse 75, 75feet/22m long, approximately 42tonnes and she is berthed here at Tamaki Marine Park. He’s owned it for over 2 years and when it was due for maintenance, he tapped into the services at TMP. Nigel was impressed by the entire experience — from the quality antifoul and propspeed work by Gloss Boats, topside polish by Marine Detailing Co, and smooth haul-out process and water blast by TMP.
“I’ve used most of the services here and what you’ve got is a complete package, from Gloss Boats, HMB Electrical, Aquaplumb, and Marine Detailing Co. It’s all here, you don’t have to go anywhere else. It’s great!” says Nigel.

Is Your Outboard Ready for Winter?
Winter’s the perfect time to give your outboard some attention. A bit of prep now can save you from bigger headaches later. Here’s a quick checklist to keep your engine protected and ready for the next season:
- Fuel system – Add a fuel stabiliser and run the engine to circulate it. This helps prevent gumming, corrosion, and condensation build-up.
- Freshwater flush – Flush the engine thoroughly and tilt it down to drain out any water — this reduces the risk of corrosion or freeze damage.
- Oil change – Replace engine and gearcase oils to remove moisture and prevent internal wear. Watch for milky oil — a sign of water in the system.
- Fogging oil – Spray fogging oil into the intake to coat internal components and prevent rust while it sits.
- Battery care – Remove and store the battery in a dry, warm place. Keep it charged to extend its life.
Not sure where to start? Auckland Outboard Workshop at Tamaki Marine Park can take care of it all — servicing, checks, and storage advice. Give the team a call and get your winter maintenance sorted.
