Boats, Buzz, and New Faces at TMP
Hi to all our TMP family,
Spring is officially here, and with it comes a buzz at TMP. The yard’s getting busier, and everyone’s getting their boats ready for another season on the water.
To help you get sorted, we’ve pulled together a simple pre-season checklist to save you time (and stress) later. If your boat’s due for some TLC, now’s the time to book in before the summer rush.
And a warm welcome to Tectrax, a Kiwi company doing exciting things with their amphibious-style boat launching system, now based right here at TMP. There’s plenty happening, and more to come as we roll into the busy season.
See you around the yard or out on the water, and as always, if you need a hand with anything, we’re here to help.
Good boating,
– Martin and the Tamaki Marine Park Team
Get Set for Spring: Essential Checklist
Spring’s here and it means longer days, better weather, and with some good planning, more time on the water! The key is getting prep done now, to save you hassle later. Here’s a simple once-over to help you (and your boat) get sorted for the season ahead.
Safety First
Lifejackets – One for each person, in good condition and the right fit. If there’s any risk, get them on.
VHF – Test it, and make sure your call sign details are current if using DSC or AIS.
EPIRB or PLB – Check it’s registered and the battery is in date.
Flares & Nav Lights – Replace anything expired and check nav lights are working.
Fire & First Aid – Service your extinguishers and top up the kit.
Need a refresher? – If it’s been a while, a short course or guide never goes amiss.
Boat Systems
Engine & Fuel – Change oil and filters, check belts, anodes and impellers, and clear out stale fuel.
Batteries & Electrics – Test batteries, clean terminals, and check charger settings.
Bilge Pumps – Test float switches and manual pumps.
Hull & Running Gear – Check for growth or damage, free up seacocks, and inspect shafts, props and steering.
Trailer Checks (if towing)
WOF & Rego – Check tyres, brakes, lights, bearings, and safety chain.
Before You Head Out
Forecasts & Tides – Always check the marine forecast before launching.
Bar Crossings – Get local advice, time it right, and lifejackets on.
Trip Reports – Log with Coastguard and tell someone your plan.
Give-Way Rules – A quick refresher keeps everyone safer.
If you follow this list, it will go a long way to some safe and fun spring boating!
Tectrax Calls TMP Home
If you were watching Seven Sharp a few weeks back, you might have caught a great story on Tectrax, an innovative Kiwi start-up that’s developed a revolutionary new way to launch and retrieve your boat.
Their high-tech boat launching system gives you the convenience of an amphibious boat, but here’s the difference, you don’t need to modify your hull. It’s smart, efficient, and built right here in NZ.
We’re stoked to have Tectrax now based at TMP, and it’s great to welcome another innovative marine company to the park.
Check out their game-changing tech.
Mojito’s Looking Fresh!
It’s always good to see your boat go back on the water and Mojito, this sleek Maritimo, was looking especially sharp after her time up on the hardstand at Tamaki Marine Park. With the team at Gloss Boats giving her some love (the kind of refresh every Mojito deserves), she’s now back in action and ready for a big boating season ahead.
