Prepping for Winter? Here’s How to Look After Your Boat
With the colder weather creeping in, now’s a great time to get your boat sorted for winter. A bit of prep now can help avoid headaches later and make sure your boat’s good to go come spring.
Here are a few simple tips to keep things shipshape:
- Sort the fuel – Add a fuel stabiliser if your tank’s full, or drain it if it’s nearly empty to avoid any build-up.
- Look after the engine – Give it a flush with fresh water, change the oil and filters, and take care of any maintenance jobs you’ve been putting off.
- Charge the batteries – Store them somewhere dry and keep them topped up with a trickle charger or solar panel.
- Tidy the inside – Remove any bedding, open up the fridge and cupboards for airflow, and do a quick clean to keep mould and damp at bay.
- Check the hull – Give it a good clean and inspect for any damage or growth—winter’s a great time to get that sorted.
- Cover it up – Tight covers help protect your gear, and if your boat’s staying outside, a full wrap’s a smart idea.
If you need haul-out or hardstand options this winter, give us a shout—our team at Tamaki Marine Park is here to help keep your boat in top condition, year-round.

Boat Show Prep with Paul Bartley
Paul Bartley is the driving force behind Dynamic Marine (vessel management, servicing & maintenance, technical support, and equipment sales) and European Boats (importer and distributor of top European brands including XO Boats, Marex, Parker, Cranchi, Grandezza, and De Antonio).
A familiar face at Tamaki Marine Park, we recently caught up with Paul at the TMP Boatyard as he prepared his stunning new XO Crossover for display at the Hutchwilco Boat Show.
Brilliant Boats Start with Better Coatings
When it comes to coating boats – top quality products make all the difference. Reuban from Gloss Boats shares some intel about a recent job using Awlcraft 3000 – a next generation high-gloss, premium acrylic urethane topcoat that utilises advanced AkzoNobel colour platform – minus the tech-speak – it delivers deeper, more vibrant colours and a buffable, polishable, and repairable finish!
